Man convicted of sexual assault of child given probation
A Paradise man was found guilty Thursday by a Wise County jury of sexual assault of a child and given eight years probation. The jury found Rhannan Lee Way, 32, guilty of the second degree felony charge and then recommended probation. 271st District Judge Brock Smith sentenced Way to eight years probation/community service.

ONE KILLED, TWO HURT IN THURSDAY NIGHT WRECK — One person was reportedly killed in a wreck near Boyd Thursday night. The single-vehicle rollover wreck occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on County Road 4681, about one mile west of County Road 4680. According to Wise County EMS administrator Randall Preuninger, the wreck involved at least one fatality. A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper at the scene confirmed the deceased was pronounced dead by Wise County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Kim Redman. One person was transported via ground ambulance to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, while another person was transported via ground ambulance to Fort Worth’s Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. Both were listed in critical condition. Identities of those involved in the wreck have not been released by DPS. 4th of July events planned
Local Independence Day events kick off this weekend and continue next week. On Saturday, Runaway Bay will host the 49th Annual 4th Fest. Activities begin at noon at the Norma Coble Civic Center where you’ll find food trucks and vendors. Free activities for kids start at 2 p.m. with pony rides beginning at 3. Activities will also include water slides, a petting zoo, Lion’s Club train, a firetruck display, live music and turtle races. The Bridgeport High School BBQ team will also be selling barbecue. The Patriotic Golf Cart Parade lines up at 5 p.m., with the parade starting at 5:30. A fireworks display will wrap up the days activities at dusk, usually around 9:15.
Wise athletes claim athletic honors
Racing at her second 3A state meet last November, Paradise’s Madison Gentry was recently recognized for her achievements during her junior campaign. Gentry was the lone Wise County runner selected to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s 1A-4A All-Star cross country team. She was also named to TGCA’s 3A all-state team.
3 hurt in Boyd-area wreck
The wreck happened just after 4:30 p.m. on Farm Road 730 just south of County Road 4868 just north of the county line. The head-on collision involved three vehicles, according to Wise County EMS Administrator Randall Preuninger. Rescuers had to extricate at least one patient from a vehicle according to radio traffic of first responders at the scene.

DECATUR HOUSE FIRE — No injuries were reported in a house fire in the city of Decatur Wednesday afternoon. The Decatur Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a residential structure in the 1000 block of North Miller around 4:30 p.m. Engine 1 arrived at the scene and requested assistance from Bridgeport. Wise County EMS and Decatur Police Department also responded to the scene. Firefighters reported they had the fire under control at 4:55 p.m. “Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the home, confirming that it was all clear. We are pleased to report that there are no injuries,” Decatur City Manager Nate Mara said.
