Valley Tops Forks; 100 Career Goals for Madelyn Hayes

CHENANGO VALLEY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The girl’s soccer battle of Chenango was tonight. Forks traveling into the Valley to take on the red-hot Warriors. Valley won the first meeting in a close one, so this game was shaping up to be good.

Forks and Valley were playing a special game on a special night, but we’ll get to that in a bit.
Let’s start with Maddy Hayes. She beats the defense and fires. It goes off both posts and to her foot to tap it in and that’s her 100th career goal. Outstanding accomplishment.
Then the Warriors again. It’s Hayes playing it through to Emily Nickson who waits for her opportunity and slots it home.
Then Nickson again. A beautiful corner is swung in and it finds the thigh of Nickson who’s able to tuck it away.

Valley would take home the win, 5-0.

Now let’s get to the 100th goal. Maddy Hayes was able to slot home her 100th career varsity goal. Before the season she was chasing the Chenango Valley record of 80, but she smashed that and has now surpassed the century mark.

“My original goal was to break the record, which was 80, and I did that at the beginning of the year. Since then, I set a new one for a hundred. I did not think I was gonna get this. I was really excited,” said Hayes. “I hit the post twice, so I thought it wasn’t gonna go in, but I’m really happy that it did.”

When asked about the next goal she might have, she said, “It’s a team one. I really want to win sectionals for the fourth time. That was my main goal going into this year so I’m really hoping I can get that too.”

An absolutely incredible accomplishment. Something a lot of student-athletes long for, and a massive congratulations goes out to Maddy Hayes.
