MARATHON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Marathon High School was celebrating all things farming at its annual ag fair recently.

The Future Farmers of America, a national organization dedicated to preparing members for leadership and career opportunities, hosted the event on the school’s front lawn.

The fair brings together students, teachers and members of the community.

There were opportunities to play with animals, learn about agriculture, and even obtain potential job opportunities.

Some of the animals included mini donkeys, chickens, pigs, cows and miniature horses.

FFA Vice President Cassie Forrest says her favorite part is sharing her knowledge of farming with the rest of the town.

“To me it’s just a sense of community, I love talking to the little kids up to even the adults that come down to this. We try to bring down like ag vendors so that way kids can go up, talk to them, maybe even get a potential job, like there’s people down here that I know are hiring for their companies,” said Forrest.

Local vendors educated the students in a variety of jobs including police, EMT, plumbing and veterinary medicine. And the students set up their own stands to share their projects and what they’ve learned in class.
