    Cortland man dies after car crash in Dryden

    DRYDEN, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A Cortland man was pronounced dead at the hospital after a car crash that occurred in the Town of Dryden on Wednesday.

    As reported by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to West Lake Road near Chaffee Road around 2:36 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, for the report of a personal injury crash.

    Upon arrival at the scene, deputies say they located a white Ford bus that was owned by First Transit, Inc. of Cortland, which had hit a tree. The driver and five passengers were found inside of the bus.

    Four of the passengers were taken to Cayuga Medical Center to be evaluated and the driver was flown to Robert Packer Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

    The remaining passenger, Kevin Welch, 63, of Cortland, was taken to Guthrie Cortland Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Dryden Fire Department, Freeville Fire Department, Dryden Ambulance, TLC Ambulance, Lifenet, Guthrie Air, the Town of Dryden Highway Department and Brecht’s Towing.
