Broome County completes over 84 miles in roadwork

BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Broome County set another record for completed roadwork this season.

On Wednesday, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, Deputy Commissioner of Public Works Chet Kupiec, Broome County Legislator Matt Pasquale, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, and Senator Lea Webb announced the near end of the 2024 roadwork season in Broome County.

This year, Broome County’s Highway Division successfully completed road projects across 14 municipalities, covering over 84 miles roadway fixed, marking a fourth-consecutive year of record-setting infrastructure improvements. The work included 48.5 miles of milling and paving and 35.5 miles of road sealing.

“For four straight years, we’ve increased the number of miles repaired, making our roads safer
and more efficient for all who travel through Broome County,” said Garnar. “This year’s accomplishments would not have been possible without the support of Chairman Dan J.
Reynolds, Legislator Matt Pasquale, the Broome County Legislature, along with our partners
Assemblywoman Lupardo and Senator Webb, whose investment has allowed us to complete
another record-breaking year.”

The road work was paid for by a $2.5 million investment from Broome County along with $5.2 million in funding from Governor Hochul and the State Legislature.

There are three remaining projects left to complete in October.
