PHOTOS: Northern lights visible in Broome County

BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The northern lights were visible in Broome County on Thursday thanks to a severe solar storm.

According to space officials, Earth was hit by a strong solar radiation storm event that was followed by a geomagnetic storm. It was all thanks to a massive solar flare spotted in the sun on Wednesday.

A solar flare is an eruption of energy and in generally not common.
