JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local non-profit housing developer is thanking a local municipality for its support of its projects.

The SEPP Group recently held a news conference to specifically recognize the assistance it receives from the Town of Union government.

The event was held at Harry L Apartments in Johnson City which was formerly Harry L Drive Elementary before SEPP converted it into senior housing.

SEPP also converted the George H Nichols school in Endicott into the Nichols Notch senior housing complex and its original project, Marian Apartments is located in Endwell.

SEPP specifically thanked the town for directing federal community development block grant funding to the organization to fund upgrades to its facilities such as new roofs, heating systems and generators.

SEPP Executive Director John Bernardo, himself a former Town of Union Supervisor, specifically praised current Supervisor Rob Mack and the rest of the town board.

Mack says SEPP helps seniors who can no longer live in single family homes.

“They need places to go that are safe, accessible to keep them here in this community because they’re important to us. This is where they grew up, this is where they live, this is where they worked. We really, really love the type of housing and work that SEPP does,” said Mack.

Mack, a Republican, is running for re-election next month against Democrat Gay Canough.
