TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – Families were lining up at SUNY Broome at 8:30 in the morning yesterday, ahead of the annual Fall Open House that kicked off at 9.

Hundreds of potential new Broome students and their families filed into the West Gym on campus, to see the breadth of the school’s services and opportunities.

    Over 500 students attended.

The Open House is a chance for students to interact with the school’s department heads and professors.

The president of SUNY Broome, Tony Hawkins, says the beautiful weather during the open house was a big plus.

Students could tour the campus and check out academic buildings and the residence halls to see if it’s the right fit for them.

“They’re all located here in one central space. And they can go to other labs and other classroom spaces, but really, having them all in one spot, makes certain that you don’t miss anyone and don’t miss any opportunity to engage,” says Hawkins.

Every subject was represented at the Open House, from mathematics, to communications, and computer science.

Hawkins says if you missed the open house, you can always call the college to setup a visit.

Plus, there will be a Spring open house coming up in April, along with an open house at Broome’s Culinary and Event Center in Downtown Binghamton.
