GROVETOWN, Ga. (WJBF) – The Grovetown Police Department is investigating a possible drowning death of a 6-year-old girl that took place on Thursday, July 18.

According to a statement released from Chief Jamey Kitchens, Grovetown Police and the Grovetown Fire Department responded to a residence on Summerville Circle at approximately 9:19 p.m. to find the 6-year-old girl, Adelia Tutt, unresponsive on the bathroom floor. Emergency responders performed life-saving efforts but were unable to revive the child who was pronounced deceased a short time afterward. The GBI Crime Lab will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Officials from the Grovetown Police Department do not believe foul play is involved. No visible injuries were observed.

“During the investigation it was learned that Adelia was bathing with a 4-year-old sibling, in a garden style tub, when for reasons yet to be determined, she became unresponsive and wound-up face down in the water,” a press release from the Grovetown Police Department stated. “The 4-year-old sibling had no injuries and conveyed that they were bathing and that Adelia had “fallen asleep.”

Antonio Tutt and Chantrese Tutt, the parents of the children, are fully cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

The Department of Family and Children Services was notified of the incident and temporarily placed the 4-year-old and a 14-year-old special needs sibling in the care of relatives.

The situation is an ongoing investigation, as autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.

Over 30 years ago when I was in elementary school this similar situation happened to a good family friend of ours. They put their lil girl in the bathtub and left her unattended when they came back she had also drowned. The situation tore their marriage apart and like two years later they were divorced etc etc. Now, moving on to this….why would you leave a child in the tub with another child and walk away and leave them unattended….as you can see ANYTHING can happen
