JOHNSON COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – It’s the first day of school for students in Johnson County.

Students and staff were supposed to return on Tuesday, but Tropical Storm Debby delayed that.

They’ve been ready and are eager to get back to the class.

Superintendent Dr. Christopher Watkins says a major focus this year is making sure students know they’re being heard and that they matter.

“We asked all of our teachers to be authentic with our students. Show them love, support, smile. Let them know that you’re available to help them with their learning problems and if they’re having any adjustment problems at home or away from school,” said Dr. Christopher Watkins, Superintendent, Johnson County School District.

The district is also taking part in a 5-year strategic improvement plan with the Goergia School Board Association. It includes revising the district’s vision and mission statement.
