ATLANTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Next week, 123 Georgia delegates and 7 alternates will travel to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention.

The Democratic National Committee will rally around VP Kamala Harris and her VP pick Tim Walz.

The convention take place Monday through Thursday next week.

Several prominent Democrats will take the stage to show support and galvanize the party including former President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton.

“Basically at convention is like two things – party business, committees and caucuses and hammering out things over the next 4 years and the platform that will certify the things important to the Democratic Party,” said Georgia delegate, Amin Ghoneim.

Both parties are eying Georgia in the final few months of the 2024 presidential election because it is a crucial battleground state with many polls showing the race being extremely tight. In 2020 – the peach state flipped blue by about 12-thousand votes in the democrats favor.

“Really we are just going to support VP Harris and Tim Walz at the national convention. The entire national delegation was pledged to Biden and now we have all pledged to Harris after the switch. We are very proud of that. We were one of the first state delegations to lock our support to Harris,” said Georgia delegate, Amin Ghoneim.

Other prominent Georgians who be at the convention include Stacey Abrams, Senator Raphael Warnock, Senator Jon Ossoff and Congresswoman Nikema Williams.

“There’s going to be a lot of democracy and preserving our freedom – reproductive rights and our voting rights,” said Ghoneim

Delegates say democrats will talk about key policy issues to galvanize voters including the economy jobs, immigration and health care.
