AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta leaders are working to create an acceptable new credit card policy for the mayor.

“I’m big on process and procedures so I just think the process needs to play out and we need to have a process in place,” said Commissioner Stacy Pulliam.

Mayor Garnett Johnson, doing city business on his personal credit card because there is a $500 dollar day limit on city cards.

So, the proposal is to issue the mayor a city card and set the spending limit at $15,000 a day.

“If you look at other cities, let’s look at Savannah for instance they have a 25 thousand dollar a month credit limit he has no hold back on his daily expenditures,” said Commissioner Wayne Gullfoyle.

But other commissioners are looking to set a monthly limit.

“I can live with the $10,000 limit with no daily limit George but with a $10,000 monthly limit,” said Commissioner Tony Lewis.

“Is $15,000 the right number too high or too low?”

“It seems like the right number but again this is politics, but we’ll have to work based on colleague’s feelings on where they think it should go,” said Commissioner Sean Frantom.

“I’m not going to give a cap, because honestly and truthfully it maybe lower it maybe higher I want to see facts I’m a fact-based person,” said Commissioner Pulliam.

“When you put a credit limit on a mayor such as you can’t spend more than $500 a day or more than $10,000 a month even though it doesn’t come close to his budget you’re holding him back you’re holding him down that means he’s got to come back before the commission it’s just a dog a pony show that needs to stop,” said Commissioner Guilfoyle,

It appears city leaders have a lot of business still to do when it comes to a new credit card policy for the mayor.
