AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF)- The United Way of the CSRA launching its 2024-2025 fundraising campaign with a kickoff event Friday morning.

The United Way is a non profit organization that provides resources to 31 programs across 19 local nonprofits in the community. Those resources help those in need in the CSRA.

Friday, the organization will reveal its fundraising goal for the year, $2.4 million. These funds will go towards meeting the needs of the community and hosting events like ‘Stuff the Bus.’

After this morning’s event, hundreds of volunteers will participate in ‘Project Serve’, completing volunteer projects throughout the community.

“They’ll have a wide range of opportunities. Some will be feeding. Some will be spreading mulch. They may be painting. They could be organizing. They’re putting over 1200 hours of volunteer service in the community all before lunchtime on Friday,” explained Brittany Burnett, President and CEO of United Way of the CSRA.

The organization says there is more need than ever with an increase in “ALICE” families- or ‘Assett Limited Income Constrained and Employed.” These are the families who are one paycheck away from homelessness.

“And what we’re seeing on our end with that is that more people are calling 211 asking for help, and they’re calling for the first time. And they’re saying, ‘I’ve never needed help before. And now I do. What do I do? How do I navigate this?’ And it can be it can be hard. It can be hard to ask for help when you’ve not needed that help before. So, it’s humbling and it’s very tough for some of these families,” said Burnett.

Brad Means and Jennie Montgomery will host this morning’s event.
