AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF)- A local animal shelter is asking for your help to find pets a new home— one they deserve.

Friends Of The Animal Shelter host the annual Clear the Shelter event. Providing ready-to-go pets, just like this one right here.

“The whole event will be worth it if Sonny finds a home…,” FOTAS Program Coordinator Kathy Cagle said.

Sonny and the other animals are the reason FOTAS hosts the event each year.

“We absolutely have to find homes if we want to save these lives. We’re at that time of the summer people are busy, back to school, families are busy and they’re forgetting about the need here. This is our busiest time of year– our intake, we’re getting 22 animals a day…,” Cagle said.

The event takes place Saturday August 24th. Shelter leaders say they’ve done the hard part.

“Puppies, cats, dogs, kittens, they’re all vaccinated, they’re all microchipped, they’re all spayed and neutered. So, we’ve invested all those costs into the pet,” Cagle said.

A bill that can add up to a costly amount.

“Right now, a spay surgery, locally, can be up to $500 for a dog, microchipping can be around $20 to $25. Vaccinations are not inexpensive either,” Cagle said.

Between 11 am and 3 in the afternoon, you’ll have the chance to meet a furry friend you love.

“If we can get Sonny a home tomorrow, the whole event will be worth it. I mean this dog has us all up at night worrying about him,” Cagle said.

Reminder that all costs for cats and dogs are waived. All you have to do is show up and pick the next family member to join your tribe.
