EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has arrested a man following the death of a child.

The agency arrested 30-year-old Caleb Jochen Carter on August 23, 2024.

Reports say from July 28, 2020 – October 13, 2020, Carter allegedly abused the child in multiple ways, including: bruising to multiple body parts, including but not limited to the chest, back, scrotum, eye, ear and jaw.

In October of 2020, Carter allegedly placed an unsafe mouth piece in the victim’s mouth, obstructing the child’s airway and causing the child’s death.

Carter was booked into Edgefield County Jail, but has since been released.

He is charged with 2 counts of Unlawful Conduct Towards a Child

Why on earth is he only charged with unlawful conduct if his actions resulted in the death of the child???!! make it make sense?
