Lakeside golfer commits to college

AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) – It’s been a big week for Lakeside’s Hamilton Coleman as he announced his commitment to play golf at the University of Georgia. Hamilton helped lead Lakeside to their state championship win last year and was awarded the individual state championship and all-state player of the year as well. He is gearing up for his junior season with the panthers and he says that while the opportunity to be a bulldog is a dream come true, there is still work to do for Lakeside.

“It’s definitely cool to see all the hard kind of coming to fruition. I was born into being a UGA fan but I’ve probably wanted to play golf there since I was 8. I just love golf and I have a great support system, I’ve done it since before I could walk so it’s kind of become a part of who I am.,” says Hamilton, “[we want] two more state championships… I think we should be pretty good this year so that’s the goal.”

His coach said Hamilton is such a hard worker and he feels lucky to get to be part of his journey. “As a coach, there’s the saying ‘I was handed the keys to a Ferrari’ so I’m trying not to mess it up. Not only is Hamilton an exceptional golfer, he’s a great student and he’s an even better young man,” says Lakeside head golf coach Justin Crawford, “I’m just super excited as a coach because, not just him, but we have 13 guys on this team who are also exceptional young men.”

The Lakeside boys will receive their state championship rings later this year. A huge congratulations to Hamilton Coleman and the panthers golf team!
