    Local MMA fighter wins big in Las Vegas

    AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Local MMA fighter Malcolm “The Machine” Wellmaker returned to Augusta Thursday night after competing in the contender series in Las Vegas where he earned a first-round knockout win.

    Friends, family, and the MMA community gathered at Augusta Regional Airport to welcome Malcolm home and celebrate his win.

    With this most recent victory, he improves to 8-0 as he begins a new career as a signed UFC fighter.

    Malcolm says this is a dream come true and he couldn’t have done it without the community’s support.

    “It’s just all a dream. I got the knockout, got back from dinner, and then landed in Augusta and there’s so many people here I’m on cloud 9. it means everything for the city to support me the way they do it means so much more when I can celebrate with all the people that have been with me for years and years so it’s incredible.”
