WILLISTON, S.C. (WJBF) — The Town of Williston is under a boil water notice.

Officials say a motor failure caused one of the wells to go offline, leading to pressure loss and several main breaks. A backup well is now running.

Residents should boil water for at least one minute before drinking or cooking. Water System, Inc. will collect samples, and the boil water notice will be lifted once it’s confirmed safe.

The Town of Williston will distribute drinking water to residents starting at 2 p.m. at Town Hall. One case per household, and proof of residency is required.

Mayor Brett Williams released the following statement Sunday evening:

Attention Williston Residents, We are pleased to inform you that our staff, with the assistance of Water Systems, have successfully repaired two breaks today and will soon be restoring water service. However, please be aware that a Boil Water Advisory is in effect until we can pull and test samples. We will notify you as soon as we receive the all-clear. This weekend has presented significant challenges for our community, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as our team has worked tirelessly to restore water service. While we strive to be prepared for any emergency, the timing and nature of a crisis can test even the best preparedness plans. Although this round of repairs is complete, we are still working to stabilize our system. A plan is in place to restore our main well, and we hope the system holds steady until those repairs are finalized. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported the Town of Williston during this emergency. If you were unable to pick up water, please contact our police or fire departments so we can arrange delivery to you. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
