ATHENS, Ga. (WJBF) – Jose Ibarra, the man charged with killing nursing student Laken Riley at the University of Georgia in February, is seeking to suppress evidence.

Ibarra argues he was unlawfully detained when officers searched his apartment without a warrant.

The trial is set to begin in November.

Laken was out on a run on UGA’s campus in late February when Ibarra allegedly beat her with an object and dragged her body to a secluded area off the jogging path in an attempt to conceal her body.

Preliminary autopsy reports suggest the 22-year-old victim died of blunt force trauma to the head.
