CSRA (WJBF) – The American Red Cross is asking people to donate blood as they experience an “emergency blood shortage” after recent weather disruptions affected supply levels.

According to the Red Cross, severe weather events, including storms caused by remnants of Hurricane Debby, forced the cancellation of blood drives and blood products to go uncollected.

With September also serving as National Preparedness Month, the Red Cross emphasized that having as a strong blood supply is “key to preparedness for disasters and medical emergencies.”

Those who donate now through Sept. 15 can receive a Red Cross shirt while supplies last.
