CSRA (WJBF) – A new security system installed last week at Apalachee High School in Winder, may have prevented further tragedy .

It’s one similar to what Jenkins County just installed. It’s a special badge with a panic button worn by staff.

Superintendent Dr. John Paul Hearn, explained more about it just before the beginning of the school year.

“In the event that something bad is going on our campus and our school just needed to be locked down, anybody that’s wearing that badge which will be all of our faculty and staff, they can mash that button 8 times and it will immediately trigger our intercom system. It will send out messages to all of the computers in our school to say that we’re going on a lockdown.”
