McMORMICK COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – This year, the McCormick County School District added new safety measures for students.

Every exterior door and window now has an impact and shatter resistant film over it. The goal is to stop a shooter or someone trying to smash the windows to get in.

In demonstrations, it’s proven to be extremely effective.

Scott Holmes, a School Resource Officer at McCormick Middle School said, “A guy shot this 30 times with an AR-15 223 caliber bullet, and he took a sledge hammer and beat on it for about 10 minutes, and he made a whole probably the size of a basketball. So it just gives you time. 10 minutes is a lot of time when it comes to a very stressful situation where seconds count.”

They also have a new app that let’s teachers alert security immediately on their location if an active shooter is in the building – or if a student is missing.
