    Man charged with second degree Homicide by Vehicle

    COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man after a fatal crash on July 5.

    According to police, Antonio Huit, 34, was charged with Homicide by Vehicle in the second degree after rear-ending a Nissan Altima on I-20 near mile marker 190.5, which resulted in the death of a passenger.

    Investigators concluded that Huit was following the Nissan “too closely, and too fast for conditions” in a Chevrolet Express work van. The report shows that the driver of the Nissan Altima was traveling at approximately 10-15 mph with a flat tire and hazard lights activated.

    The driver of the Nissan was issued a citations for expired registration, no proof of insurance, driving while license suspended/cancelled, operating an unsafe vehicle and impeding the flow of traffic/minim speed requirements.

    The passenger, identified as 24-year old Mya Steed, was transported via Gold Cross EMS to Doctors Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
