    Suspect charged in officer involved shooting near JD Lever in Aiken County

    AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced a man has been charged in the officer involved shooting that took place on July 25 near JD Lever Elementary School in Aiken.

    Aiken County Deputies responded to the scene due to reports of a person behaving erratically.

    Joshua Colton Johnson, 32, was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center on charges of Resisting Arrest with Violence, two counts of Unlawful Taking of a Firearm or Weapon
    from a Law Enforcement Officer and two counts of Assault and Battery 2nd degree
    on Wednesday, September 4.

    According to arrest warrants, Johnson “physically assaulted Aiken County Sheriff’s Office” by striking and kicking officers. Johnson is also accused of disarming deputies of their electronical control devices (ECDs/TASERs).

    SLED stated that the investigation is active and ongoing.

    The case will be prosecuted by the 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
