AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) – Kenzie has played four years of flag football for the Wolfpack where she led her team to a state championship. She has also been named a “player to watch” by MaxPreps and Sports Illustrated, and she holds the school record for passing touchdowns, completion percentage, total passing yards, and has the highest QB rating. In the classroom she is in the honors society, takes multiple AP classes, and volunteers with the Buddy Club for kids with special needs. For her hard work both in the classroom and in her athletic endeavors, Kenzie has been named WJBF Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Kenzie says she is so grateful to be recognized for all her hard work. “It’s really cool that all my work has paid off in the classroom and on the field,” says Kenzie, “It’s just really cool to see it represented in an award so I’m very grateful for it.”

Her parents are so proud of her saying she has been working to achieve her goals since she was born. “Well in sports she’s been working at football since we can remember, since she could walk,” says mom Kim Horton, “and in academics she puts in work every day, she does a lot of it all the time.” For Kenzie’s father, he says he’s most proud of the way she is a leader for younger athletes. “Just the younger generation, especially to the flag football sport, just to watch the younger kids see her for what she is is really impressive,” says Wes Horton.

Kenzie’s coach has also seen her hard work and says her leadership has made a difference for the team. “Just seeing her on the field, especially now that she’s coming into her senior year, take on more of a leadership role. She’s always been a great player, she’s going to be a 4-year starter this year,” explains Head Coach Daniel Jordan, “I think now the girls respecting her and knowing that she’s been here before, it kind of gives us a little bit of an edge, I think, on the field.”

Kenzie has multiple college offers, but she hasn’t landed on a school yet. She plans to study business administration and continue playing flag football. A huge congrats to Kenzie Horton and her family!
