AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – We’re following the case of a 27-year-old woman who was shot to death Saturday night. The coroner says Laquana Lang was shot at least once inside a home on Hines Street.

The suspect, Davante Parks, turned himself in on Sunday. Records show this was not the first time he’s been accused of shooting a woman.

I spoke with Brittany McKie who said it had been eight years since she last heard of anything involving the suspect. This past weekend, she was shocked by the news of the most recent incident.

“I just got comfortable walking out my house without feeling like I had to look over my shoulder.”

The fear for her life, McKie tells me, spiked all over again once she learned what happened to 27-year-old Laquana Lang.

“I didn’t go to sleep; I haven’t been to sleep since I heard he was out, and Saturday I had to find out from a Facebook post that it was him that was out– nobody told me he was out.”

Lang was shot at least once, according to the coroner’s office, and found dead in an Allen Homes residence Saturday morning.

“I feel sorry for the young lady that had to lose her life. But I feel like if I was, I feel like if I was told that he was coming home– or that they were looking into paroling him, and I had some type of say so– if y’all were gonna let him out, he shouldn’t have been able to come back to Augusta,” McKie said.

McKie explained her incident with Parks dating back to 2016 , when she herself, was shot six times by the suspect. Now she lives to tell her story.

“I had a mental breakdown, I had to go off for a couple weeks. MCG Had sent me to– I was 10-13 pretty much– and they sent me to Villa Rica, Georgia to a mental facility. The healing process was a lot, the paranoia was a lot. I was paranoid– I just got comfortable– I just got comfortable walking out my house without looking over my shoulder…”

While Parks is in custody, there is no word yet on when he will face a judge. He faces 2 counts of child cruelty for Lang’s 2- and 5-year-old children who were in the home during the fine of the shooting.
