GREEN COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – The GBI has arrested and charged a Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office Deputy with multiple infractions.

29-year-old Joshua Wilson of Winterville, Georgia, is charged with:

    • Home Invasion in the 1st Degree
    • Aggravated Assault
    • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
    • Simple Battery (Family Violence)
    • Obstructing or Hindering a Person Making an Emergency Telephone Call
    • Criminal Damage to Property in the 2nd Degree.

On Thursday, September 5th around 7:00 a.m., the GBI was requested by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a domestic violence investigation.

About 5:00 a.m. that same morning, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1000 block of McInteer Circle in Greensboro, Georgia, regarding a domestic dispute.

The preliminary investigation shows that Wilson entered a home and got in a fight with residents.

At the time of the incident, Wilson was a deputy with the Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office and was off-duty. He later turned himself into the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

NewsChannel 6 spoke with Taliaferro County Sheriff, Tia McWilliams, about this incident. She told us that Wilson began working for the county on August 23rd and that he was fired on the day of his arrest.

Sheriff McWilliams said that the suspect used to work for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and this year he was a candidate for sheriff. Since he didn’t win that election, he got a job with Taliaferro County.

Sheriff McWilliams also released the following statement on Facebook”

“I am disappointed by the lawless actions of former Deputy Joshua Wilson. As law enforcement officers we are called to a higher standard of conduct, both on and off the job. As Sheriff of Taliaferro County, I strive to impress upon the hearts and minds of my staff the necessity to live out our mission: To protect and serve with honor, integrity, love, compassion, and respect because I know all humans possess the innate ability to fall short; therefore, we must choose daily to humble ourselves and be intentional about doing what is morally, ethically, lawfully, and justifiably right at all times, while at the same time extending to others the dignity, love, compassion, and respect we want extended to ourselves and our loved ones in our moments of distress. We must forever be mindful that one day it may be Jane or John Doe who you have to arrest and on another day it could be you, so choose to live life justly and treat people right.”
