BAMBERG COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – The Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office has introduced a new initiative to help vulnerable members of the community.

The “R U OK Program” allows seniors, disabled individuals and those who live alone to receive weekly check-ins from members of the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office.

Registered participants will be contacted once a week by a volunteer or member of the Sheriff’s Office. They will also keep a record of dates and times called and make notes of any questions asked.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, if a registered participant is not reached after three call attempts, the emergency contact will be notified. If the emergency contact is not able to physically check on the participant, a Deputy or Officer will be dispatched to the residence.

Application and consent forms can be turned in to the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office or emailed to bennettvs@bambergcounty.sc.gov or colonsl@bambergcounty.sc.gov.

Those with questions about the program can contact Valaree Bennett at (803) 245-3018 or Shauntina Benson at (803) 596-7392.
