2 arrested for trying to deliver drugs to Washington State Prison, police say

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office intervened in an attempted contraband drop at Washington State Prison Wednesday morning.

A deputy patrolling near Davisboro spotted a suspicious vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway close to the state prison.

After watching the vehicle for awhile, authorities say, the passenger tossed a large trash bag out the window.

The deputy tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused.

After a short chase, the driver pulled over.

During the investigation a large quantity of illegal drugs and other prohibited items were confiscated.

The following individuals were arrested and charged as follows:

Byron Gearing, age 45 of Atlanta, Ga. –

• CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT A FELONY (FEL)
• CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT A FELONY (FEL)
• POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE (FEL)
• TRAFFICKING METHAMPHETAMINE (FEL)
• TRADING WITH INMATES WITHOUT CONSENT OF WARDEN (FEL)

Demarcus Morgan, age 27 of Atlanta, Ga. –

• TRADING WITH INMATES WITHOUT CONSENT OF WARDEN (FEL)
• TRAFFICKING METHAMPHETAMINE (FEL)
• POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE (FEL)
• CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT A FELONY (FEL)
• FLEEING OR ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE POLICE (FEL)
• CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT A FELONY (FEL)
• SPEEDING
• RECKLESS DRIVING
• STOP SIGN VIOLATION x 2
• FAILURE TO USE TURN SIGNAL
• FAILURE TO MAINTAIN LANE
