AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It was a big night for high school students in our area as Savannah River Nuclear Solutions hosted its annual College Fair. This year, the venue was changed to the Augusta Convention Center.

“I’m very grateful, you know, network and learn more about different colleges and what they offer,” said Alyssa Bryant, a student.

CSRA College Night is where local high school students can get a head start on their future.

“I came here to, like, look at all the options because there is more out there than what we think,” said Carmen Wooten, a student.

High school students could talk to more than 100 colleges and tech schools offering various career paths.

“We can come down and see just about every single college that you could even think about and just kind of get a feel,” said Tripp Rice, Parent.

Students told me they are grateful to have this opportunity so close to them.

“Usually, when we want to do this, we have to travel far away, but we’re glad it’s here right in Augusta, and I’m glad my school supported it,” said Keith Mitchell III, Student.

Since some students may not be able to travel and see what’s available, being able to bring it to them shows that there are opportunities available to them in many areas.

“Some people don’t have the resources to take them all over Georgia to visit colleges,” said Kennedi Freeman, a student.

For some students, this was the first step toward their possible future.

SRNS also awarded 15 1,000-dollar scholarships to seniors at the event to continue supporting the students and helping them grow.

“This is important because they are our future. You know, I mean, they are our next step,” said Cindy Hewitt, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.

Organizers hope college night helps students feel prepared for their next steps.
