    12-year-old charged after allegedly being involved in threats to Aiken Co. Schools

    AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – A 12-year-old has been charged after accusations of being involved in threats to Aiken County Schools.

    According to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, investigators identified a 12-year-old suspect modified an existing threat to schools and began circulating it.

    This comes after the Aiken Department of Public Safety posted on their Facebook Page , that an 11-year-old had been charged after allegedly making threats on social media, and an investigation began by ADPS and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, September 15th after seeing the threats circulate on social media.

    Authorities state that the social media threat targeted several middle schools in the City of Aiken and North Augusta, and ADPS identified the 11-year-old and the appropriate charges were made.

    According to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, it is alleged that the 12-year-old suspect in today’s investigation added to the threat from Sunday’s case, and the 12-year-old has been charged with Student Threats and Threatening a Public Official with a referral to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

    Authorities say these are ongoing investigations.
