AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta commissioners tried last week to replace current Interim Administrator Takiyah Douse, but there was no quorum to conduct business. Now the issue is not going before commissioners at their meeting Tuesday.

“At this point, it is what it is. At some point, a decision is going to get made one way or the other,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Brandon Garrett.

Commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle says he did not send an email requesting the administrator vote be placed on Tuesday’s agenda, he says it was a mistake and not because there’s been a change of support on the commission.

“No absolutely not we’re still going to proceed moving forward with the administrator, it’s been procrastinated since February. The people are tired of it – the commissioners are tired of it,” said Guilfoyle.

City leaders say there are six votes to name I.T. Director Tameka Allen permanent administrator, replacing Douse.

Douse right now is working on the 2025 city budget that will be presented next month, so is there a concern about changing administrators right now?

“I’m not worried about that. We’ll decide that next Tuesday on how we move forward, but for me, I’m ready to change and move forward immediately,” said Commissioner Sean Frantom.

But others say during budget season the decision should not be rushed.

“Absolutely, that’s why I say we need to be professional on our decision. We shouldn’t be flexing our muscles we should be looking on how this is going to impact the government,” said Commissioner Francine Scott.

Commissioners will be making a decision on the administrator, but later rather than sooner.
