    Gov. Kemp issues state of emergency for Georgia ahead of Hurricane Helene

    GEORGIA (WJBF) – Georgia leaders are preparing for the effects of Tropical Storm Helene.

    WJBF Meteorologists say this storm is now a category 1 hurricane..

    Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declared a State of Emergency Tuesday and is prepared to deploy 500 National Guard troops to heavily affected areas.

    State leaders and GEMA say this will be a more expensive storm than Hurricane Debbie and ask everyone to avoid non-essential travel if necessary.
