AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) – Elijah is a three-sport star for the Cavaliers playing football, basketball, and track where he was named to the All-Region team in basketball and football. In the classroom he has a 3.87 GPA and has earned distinguished honors in a handful of classes. For his hard work both in the classroom and in his athletic endeavors, Elijah has been named WJBF Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Elijah says he’s grateful to the community for supporting him, and he loves being a role model for younger athletes. “I feel honored to get this award today and have a community like Prep to put me into this position,” says Elijah, “it feels great that somebody like a freshman would go up to me and talk to me, be willing to ask questions, and I’ll be there to answer it for them.”

Elijah also has a strong support system at home, with his mom saying she’s loved watching her son grow. “Just watching him grow on and off the court, the football field, the basketball court and the in classroom, he’s excelled at it all, so I’m happy for him” says mom Nicole Johnson.

Elijah’s coach has also seen his hard work and says his presence on the team makes everyone around him better. “Yeah, I think he loves the work. He works hard and he loves it, and that energy is infectious,” explains Head Basketball Coach Sam Gruber, “I think it rubs off on people in both places.”

His football coach agrees saying it is a privilege to coach Elijah. “It’s just an honor to coach Eli. He’s a leader on the field and in the classroom. Eli’s the type of kid that he does whatever he needs to do to help his team,” says Football Coach Todd Booker, “he’s the ultimate team player and just a high character young man, and we’re honored to have him here at Augusta Prep.”

Elijah is still deciding on a college, but he plans to study physical therapy. A huge congratulations to Elijah McFadgen and his family!
