CSRA – Emergency crews are urging people to stay inside during the aftermath of Hurricane Helene saying that EMTs are ready to come to your aid but severe weather can make it extremely difficult.

The senior director of operations at Gold Cross says that medical emergencies don’t stop for hurricanes, and emergency responders having to respond to avoidable rescues could keep them from being able to respond if someone is having a heart attack or stroke.

“Potentially it puts them in danger, and us too. You know, ambulances are big, but they’re light and there’s not a lot of density in an ambulance. So when it gets 30, 35 mile an hour winds, they get a little hard to handle. And if winds get sustained 45 miles an hour, we can’t even drive them because, you know, they can blow over. So, we would just as soon people listen to what the authorities are telling you to do, stay home, don’t do anything. Don’t have your big hurricane party,” says John Smith, the Senior Director of Operations of Gold Cross.
