AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Georgia Governor Brian Kemp along with other local and state leaders in Augusta Monday addressing recovery efforts following hurricane Helene.

Governor Kemp says he’s been traveling around the state, assessing damages, speaking to local leaders and working to deliver aid to affected areas.

He said he spoke to President Biden who offered resources, and he submitted an expedited emergency declaration to be approved by the federal government. He says FEMA has acknowledged it and he believes it’ll be approved quickly. In the meantime, they’ll still be working 24/7 to restore water, power repairing damages and clearing roadways.

“We will not waiver until we get everything put back together. It may take us a while but just know this team will work 24-7 to get your power back on to get road clear to get water operating. Make sure that we’re getting our state back to normal. This is obviously gonna be a very long recovery, but we will not waiver in that recovery.”
