AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – As more National Guard members are deployed to our area, that means they also need a place to stay.

The Salvation Army of Augusta is helping them out. They’ve opened the Kroc Center to serve as a shelter for the Guardsmen. Volunteers spent the morning setting up cots and preparing food for them.

“We’re honored that we have that opportunity. We’re blessed to get the Kroc Center in the first place and to have the facility that can host all these volunteers coming in to town to help clean up, and restore our lives, that’s even better,” said Derek Dugan with Salvation Army of Augusta.

The National Guard could be staged at the Kroc Center for about a week or until more power returns.
