SOUTH CAROLINA (WJBF) – The South Carolina Forestry Commission has issued a “burn ban” for 15 South Carolina counties to ease the strain on firefighting personnel assisting with Hurricane Helene recovery.

Outdoor burning, including yard debris, forestry, prescribed burning, campfires, bonfires and other fires for recreational purposes are included in the ban. The South Carolina Forestry Commission stated the ban does not apply to fires used for food preparation in the appropriate enclosures.

“With so many firefighters providing hurricane-related response, the ability to respond to wildfires is extremely limited,” an announcement from the South Carolina Forestry Commission states.

The burn ban includes the following counties:

    • Abbeville
    • Aiken
    • Anderson
    • Cherokee
    • Edgefield
    • Greenville
    • Greenwood
    • Laurens
    • McCormick
    • Newberry
    • Oconee
    • Pickens
    • Saluda
    • Spartanburg
    • Union
