AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It’s been 12 days since Hurricane Helene came through the CSRA and there is still a lot of cleanup needed across the area.

NewsChannel 6 spoke with Tiffany Marshall who is a resident in this community. If you take a look, you can see the exact devastation that Helene has left her home in.

Hurricane Helene not only brought heavy winds knocking down large trees, but it took with it, all that some residents had.

“This is ours, everything that I worked for is gone…,” Tiffany Marshall said.

Tiffany Marshall was inside her home when trees began to hover over it.

“It was me and my special needs son in the house. I heard the noise, so I moved him from his room, then I moved him to my room, then I moved him in the living room. Once I moved him in the living room, I turned around. The tree came falling down, so I had to turn around and shield him so it wouldn’t fall on him. So, it caught right there.”

Marshall says it’s a moment she will never forget.

“They had to come in– I bent down right there to scream for help and they had to come kick my door in just to get us out because he’s not– he can’t walk. So, I had to carry him out of here.”

Now, she tells me, her worry is even bigger.

“My kids are spread out, none of us slept together, I have nowhere to go, I called and called and called, they keep giving me nasty trailers. It’s, it’s, it’s, a lot. How could you give me a trailer that’s condemned and molded, and you want me to clean it out,” Marshall said.

Marshall explains, on top of daily life demands, those circumstances are hard to manage with two children, and one needing extra help.

“I feel like you’re not trying to help me because at the end of the day, I only owe four months on this trailer, and it would’ve been mine. So, the only thing you keep saying is FEMA money, FEMA money, FEMA money, but if you put me in that trailer, I shouldn’t owe nothing but four more months. Then I got to go in and clean it up…”

Marshall shared with me that she had recently remodeled the inside of her home and is still without a place to live. A reminder that some people are facing homelessness due to the impact of Helene. Some helpful resources can be found here .
