BLYTHE, Ga. (WJBF) – Residents in Blythe are coming together to ensure that neighbors get the help they need after the storm’s devastation.

“This is our community, and I believe in taking care of our people, “said Kimberly LaJoie, a resident.

Those in the community showed up and showed up on Saturday.

“If we don’t help ourselves, nobody else is going to help us. I mean, that’s why I moved out to a small community neighbors helping neighbors,” said Michael Rineer, a resident.

They told me that they hadn’t had much help getting trees removed, so they took matters into their own hands.

“Since Blythe’s kind of forgotten about we have to rely on each other out here,” said Kai Tucker, a resident.

They plan to continue the storm recovery to help everyone who may not be able to remove the damage themselves since veterans and older adults largely make up the community.

“Since this got put out, people have contacted me and said, Hey, you know I’ve got an older mother over on Church Street or somebody on these other parts,” said Michael Rineer, a resident. “So, we’re going to hit Murrow Street and then maybe move to Church Street. We’ll just keep doing this as much as we can.”

Others want to help those in the community by making a food pantry.

“ The crisis here isn’t over. We have people who used all their financial means to survive during this, and they have to make decisions. Do I pay my bills, or do I buy food? There’s still a need for food in this town, even prior to this,” said Kimberly LaJoie, a resident.

As well as feeding those who are taking time out of their day to help clean up their town.

“We want to feed them a hot meal, and we felt like it’s just important to we got to give back,” said Renee Kaufman, a resident.

If you would like to send donations or want to help with the next cleanup, you can find that on Blythe’s Facebook page .
