    Kemp extends state of emergency again following devastation from Helene

    GEORGIA (WJBF) – Georgia Governor, Brian Kemp, extended the state of emergency again this week.

    The governor posted the following on his “X” account:

    As Georgia communities hit hard by Hurricane Helene continue to rebuild, I want to assure them that we aren’t going anywhere until they’re fully recovered. Our commitment remains unwavering, even if the news cycle has already moved on. That is why I extended the State of Emergency today for counties in South and East Georgia as we continue to work with local partners on providing assistance.

    The State of Emergency order is currently being extended until Wednesday, Oct. 23rd for multiple counties, including:

    • Burke
    • Columbia
    • Emanuel
    • Glascock
    • Jefferson County
    • Jenkins
    • Johnson
    • McDuffie
    • Richmond
    • Screven
    • Washington
    • Wilkes

    The gas tax suspension is ALSO being extended until the 23rd, it i nitially was set to expire today , October, 16th.
