AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Senator Jon Ossoff announced Tuesday that $7.2 million is coming to Georgia to strengthen access to mental health and substance abuse treatment, including Augusta.

According to the center, the funding, which is being provided through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), will be used to establish and expand local programs that help individuals struggling with their mental health or substance use.

In Augusta, the Christ Community Health Services will receive a grant of $600,000.

On the announcement, Sen. Ossoff said, “I hear consistently from local leaders, health leaders, and faith leaders across the state about the need for a stronger safety net for mental health as well as investment in substance abuse prevention and treatment.”

He added, “I’m pleased to announce that with bipartisan support from Republicans and Democrats, I’ve helped secure supplemental investments coming to Georgia to support mental health and substance abuse treatment.”
