ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) – Every year, the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) travels across its 9 transportation districts to update residents about progress to the board’s 6-year plan.

On Monday night, the CTB held a meeting for the Bristol District in Abingdon, giving the public a chance to hear that plan.

“We want to ensure that the public has the opportunity to comment on our plan so that we are ensuring that it’s an open process for the Commonwealth Transportation Board,” said Michelle Earl, the communications manager for the VDOT Bristol District.

Part of the meeting included public comment, allowing people to inform the board on issues they felt needed to be addressed.

Meadowview resident Kenneth Nurre took to the podium to share concerns over a road near his home.

“It was scheduled for repair,” said Nurre. “I believe it was talked about, but some other projects came up. They took over and the repairs never got finished.”

Nurre said he felt that his comments were heard and taken into consideration by the board.

“I feel good,” Nurre said. “Especially when they started taking notes, at least somebody was interested in what we had to say, and what I had to say.”

Comments regarding the plan can be submitted through May 20. Information about how to submit comments can be found here .
