WWII planes returning to Tri-Cities Airport for tours, flights

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – Several rare World War II-era aircraft, including one of the last B-29 Superfortresses to still be flying, will make their way to Tri-Cities Airport.

The AirPower History Tour of the Commemorative Air Force will bring historical military planes to the airport.

The planes will arrive on May 28 and will be staged at the Tri-City Aviation FBO ramp at the airport, according to a news release from the Commemorative Air Force.

From May 30 – June 2, visitors will be able to see the aircraft up close, tour the cockpits while they’re not in use and schedule rides. The event is open to the public and will allow visitors from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.

The aircraft will include the 29 Superfortress “FIFI” as well as several other WWII warbirds.

The cost to access the ramp is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 11-17 and free for any kids 10 and under.

The tour will offer rides in a T-6 Texan, PT-13 Stearman and RC-45J Expeditor each day. Rides in the B-29 Superfortress “FIFI” will be at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on June 1-2. The cockpit of the B-29 can be toured each day.
