(WJHL) — Texas Rangers outfielder and Elizabethton native Evan Carter is getting closer to returning to the baseball field.

Carter has been sidelined since May 27 with a lumbar sprain according to doctors and has been sent to Arizona rehab. The Rangers hope he returns after a minor league rehab assignment, which could start after the all-star break.

Carter could be with triple-a-round rock when they host Oklahoma City July 19-21.
