KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Petworks Animal Services in Kingsport has resumed offering cat adoptions.

In late July, Petworks announced it had to pause feline adoptions for at least 14 days after a mother cat and her kittens tested positive for panleukopenia, also known as feline distemper.

Intakes were also paused for cats to avoid any further risk of infection. The staff planned to thoroughly clean the facility while cat adoptions were paused.

Petworks announced on social media Monday that cat adoptions had resumed. The shelter stated it was offering a special with all cats and dogs available for adoption for $40.

Feline distemper does not affect dogs, and it did not pose a risk to the ones who were at the shelter at the time of the illness.
