    Foundation raises money for family of killed Smyth Co. deputy

    SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — Organizations are accepting donations to assist the family of Smyth County Deputy Hunter Reedy, who was fatally shot on Aug. 9 when a traffic stop turned into a shooting.

    The Greater Southwest Chapter of the Virginia Police Benevolent Association and the Police Benevolent Foundation are accepting monetary donations for Reedy’s family.

    Reedy leaves behind a wife and three children.

    The Police Benevolent Foundation stated in a social media post that 100% of the funds donated go to Reedy’s family.

    The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office has also organized its own Fund the First campaigns for both Reedy and Deputy Michael Fedorchuk , who was injured in the same Aug. 9 shooting that killed Reedy.

    Reedy’s funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Chilhowie Christian Church. His family will receive friends on Friday from 3-6 p.m. at the same location.
