JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – ETSU football is just 15 days away from its journey over the mountain to open the 2024 season at Appalachian State.

The Bucs still have double-digit practices, however, to continue improving before starting the campaign. The coaching staff will get another live look at the players in a second intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.

Last weekend’s first scrimmage of fall camp yielded a strong day for the defense – three interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, as well as a safety. The offense had its moments, particularly Bryson Irby’s 85-yard touchdown scamper.

This weekend, the Blue and Gold’s head coach Tre Lamb has two major priorities heading into the competition this weekend.

“We want to stay healthy – Number 1,” Lamb explained on News Channel 11’s First at Four. “You don’t want to lose any of your impact players. Then, Number 2, if we can find four or five of those impactful freshmen or new guys that we really haven’t seen in a live setting – that’s our goal for tomorrow. Hopefully this rain holds off and we have a good day out there.”

Saturday’s scrimmage will be closed to the general public, but fans are encouraged to come Meet the Team at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium on Monday, August 19 from 6-8 p.m.
