Gate City Blue Devils looking to fill some major holes this season

Gate City, VA — Now that we have featured all the teams in northeast Tennessee our high school preview jumps the state line to southwest Virginia where Gate City gets ready to open their season in 2 weeks.

The Blue Devils are coming off back-to-back 8-4 seasons under head coach Jeremy Houseright who started in 2019. Unfortunately, many of those players in the last 2 years such as quarterback Luke Bledsoe have moved on.

So Gate City finds itself with a lot of holes to fill, but Houseright is right at home making a mountain out of a molehill.

If we’ve got to adjust just some of our scheme a little bit and get us in a different person, a group, and you know, we’re willing to do that as coaches. We’re going to put these kids in the best possible position to be successful. And, you know, that’s what our job is. It’s not like a college coach. We’re recruiting pieces in the system we want to run, says Houseright”

“We’ve got young quarterbacks that are coming in and they’re looking good. We’re all just trying to get together and make sure that we got the flow of things going so we can, you know, help win some games, according to Hillman.”

“Everybody’s giving 110% effort and there’s no slacking around. Like everybody shows up on time when they have to and everybody just shows up and supports each other and makes everybody better, says Jones.”

The Blue Devils open the season August 30th at home against Richlands at 7pm
