    Schools, non-profits awarded grants from Dollar General Literacy Foundation

    TRI-CITIES, Tenn. (WJHL) — Schools and non-profits in the Tri-Cities were awarded grants through Dollar General’s Literacy Foundation.

    Dollar General announced on Thursday its literacy foundation awarded nearly $660,000 in youth literacy grants to Tennessee nonprofits, libraries and schools.

    Local church helps pay off $8 million in medical debt

    “We understand investing in youth literacy means investing in the future of students and our collective communities,” Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation said in a news release. “Through these grants, we hope to enhance the programs’ efforts to foster students’ critical thinking skills, creativity and confidence so they can unlock their potential and achieve their dreams.”

    Below are the local recipients of funds:

    • Bristol, Fairmount Elementary School – $2,500
    • Erwin, Unicoi County High School – $2,000
    • Kingsport, Restoration Hope – $2,000
    • Rogersville, Hawkins County Schools/Cherokee High School – $3,000
    • Greeneville, Camp Creek Elementary School – $2,000

    Applications for the 2025 Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant cycle will open in January.
